Jerry Somerville earned his Ph.D. in Education with an emphasis in community college leadership from Oregon State University. Dr. Somerville’s interest in assessment and learning began in the 1960s and continued through two master’s degrees and his doctoral studies.
Dr. Somerville has had a long and distinguished career with one community college. Throughout his 40-year tenure at Napa Valley College, he served in a wide variety of faculty and administrative leadership roles in student services, instruction, and curriculum management. Prior to his retirement, he served as the lead person coaching college personnel through the development and assessment of student learning outcomes. Dr. Somerville now works as an educational consultant and free agent researcher, which allows him the opportunity to pursue research related to learning, assessment, and curriculum design.
